SQL Select

The SQL SELECT Statement

To choose data from a database, use the SELECT statement.

Example

Return data from the Customers table:

				
					SELECT CustomerName, City FROM Customers;
				
			

Syntax

SELECT column1, column2, …

FROM table_name;

The table you wish to pick data from has field names like column1, column2,… in this case.

The name of the table from which you wish to select data is represented by the table_name.

Select ALL columns

The SELECT * syntax can be used to return all columns without giving the names of each column:

Example

Return all the columns from the Customers table:

				
					SELECT * FROM Customers;
